January 31st, investigators say the parents of a 15-year-old girl on Unthank's team told police their selfhelp daughter told them of selfhelp her alleged sexual relationship with her coach. The same day police brought Garry Unthank in for questioning. "Basically just admit, uh, told us about the relationship he had with the 15-year-old juvenile," said Officer Chris Haddle. "Which included the sexual relationship he had with her." Investigators say Unthank told them the relationship was consensual, but the age of consent in Kentucky is 16. Now, Unthank is charged selfhelp with felony rape. Police aren't sure if the school conducted a background check of Unthank before allowing him to coach. Local 12 did not find any sex charges in his past. Still, investigators want to know if Unthank had improper contact with any other students. "We encourage parents and kids to communicate with one another, said Officer Haddle. "If Mister Unthank's name is brought up through any type of interaction they had at the school, on the team or as a student, during school, not during school, and engaged in any type of relationship with him, sexual or not, contact us and make us aware of what that relationship is."
