Also, please elaborate on the "benefits of monogamy". There is a difference between being catherine hardwicke in a healthy, respectful, committed relationship and being simply monogamous. Far too often cheating or affairs happen because one partner isn't getting their emotional needs met by their partner. If there wasn't such paranoia about someone's partner being with someone else then I think it'd be healthier. But it's the situation and not the number of partners which is important. Monogamy was an improvement over polygamy and concubinage but it still has a lot to do with patriarchal notions of property which is something I'd rather not perpetuate. However, I think if someone chooses to be monogamous with their partner, then that's just fine. |
