Among those, more than three-quarters of the assailants were members of the Armed Forces; almost all the assailants were men; 91 percent of the victims were women; and the majority of assaults took place in the junior ranks. So much for Rumsfeld's pandering quips about how sexual assault in the military "must not be tolerated." (sigh). There are some attempts to bring greater attention to victims mistreatment at the hands of military personnel--like the kickass organization Survivors Take Action Against Abuse by Military Personnel (STAAMP).
