| No law can prevent crime. The point of course being inns that we must get tough on child molesters. Child molestation should be a 1 strike and your gone for 20 years mandatory punishment. Are you against putting child molesters away inns for a minimum of 20 or more years? I am in favor of thoughtful response and not knee-jerk response. Placing a mandatory 20 inns years for a first offense wouldn't prevent a crime (as you note) but it might create an incentive for a molester to eliminate the only witness to his/her crime. If the molestor has nothing to lose, then there is no disincentive to escalating the crime.
