If they were given the power to force a recall referendum by petition, the power that was exercised last year by California movie listings voters to replace their governor for gross mistakes of public policy, voters in Waterbury and Bridgeport almost certainly would have movie listings acted to save their cities a lot of trouble, disgrace, and expense with Giordano and Ganim, and voters in Stonington and the state at large almost certainly would be acting movie listings now in regard to Dibble and Rowland. The theoretical objection to recall provisions is that they can be exercised recklessly, but in fact they never have been; only two U.S. governors have been recalled. Indeed, if avoiding recklessness is the goal, Connecticut would seem to be in urgent need of a recall provision in its Constitution; without one, the state has corruption and even depravity in public office and emphatically wants its governor to depart.
