The best defense against those who prey on children is to know where your kids are and who they are with, teach them not to talk to strangers and to run and scream when approached, and don't let them wander the neighborhood alone. Sex offender registries, though implemented with the best intentions, can't really protect anyone. And when an 18 year old teen can be placed on such a list for having sex with his 16 year old girlfriend, that tells me these registries are a bad idea. |
