But what kept coming back to me later was something that hit home the moment I heard it, something one of the prosecutors said in his closing argument. He said: "You don't take advantage of a drunk girl." Although that may seem elementary to some of you, I'm not sure that's a lesson that has ever been properly emphasized to young men in our society. In public amateurs fact, when I was younger, there was a very different message public amateurs that public amateurs dominated the culture: one that routinely referred to men "plying" women with alcohol to get them to "loosen up." This was standard operating procedure for the single guy in pursuit of sex; maybe for the single woman, too, but I can only purport to speak for the male side of the equation. It wasn't a predatory thing so much as part of the mating ritual.
