Two studies suggest that teenagers who have close relationships with their mothers are more likely to delay sexual activity than teenagers who lack a close relationship orielly factor with their mothers. The findings of both studies, based on data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, were published in the September 2002 issue of the Journal of Adolescent Health. One study looked at orielly factor boys and girls collectively orielly factor in grades 8 through 11, and the second looked at 14 and 15-year old boys and girls separately. Study Findings Based on separate interviews of 2000 mothers and their teens who were followed for one year, 11% of 14 and 15-year-old boys, and 16% of girls the same age, reported having sex.
