Chao Highlights Benefits in Employing corporation Older Americans AARP Awards Ceremony Recognizes Best Employers NEW YORK—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao delivered remarks during the annual AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50 Awards Ceremony in New York City. The awards honored thirty-five businesses corporation in recognition of their creative, positive working environments for older corporation Americans. “Older workers have a great story to tell and the news this year is as good as it was last year—even better,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. “Since 2001, employment among persons ages 55-64 has increased. In fact, the unemployment rate of older workers is 3.7 percent, which is even lower than the national unemployment rate of 5.4 percent. And earnings for full-time older workers have grown at a faster rater than for any other age group since 2001. That’s a tribute to the skills, experience and wisdom that older workers bring to the workplace.”
