| I am in favor of thoughtful response and not knee-jerk response. Placing a mandatory 20 years for a first offense wouldn't prevent a crime (as you note) but it might create an incentive for a molester to eliminate the only witness to his/her crime. If the molestor has nothing to lose, restaurant listings then there restaurant listings is no disincentive restaurant listings to escalating the crime. Considering the repeat rate of child molesters every one put away for 20 years (Or longer) is 1 less off the street.
